A potential cause for your issue is a weak ground connection. Trace the white ground wire from your 4-pole back to where it attaches to the vehicle frame. This ground must be secured to a clean and rust-free spot on the frame. If necessary sand off the rust/dirt from that grounding point and reattach the white ground wire or relocate it a new spot.
If this does not correct the problem then I suggest you next test your existing 4-pole trailer connector on your Mazda to confirm it is functioning.... view full answer...
I am sorry to hear about your tailgate lock! The controller might also be sensing a short. Check the vehicle and trailer side connectors and make sure they are clean and free of corrosion inside where the wires attach... view full answer...
A 4-pole wiring harness carries stop, turn and tail light signals only, and does not connect at all to a vehicle's reverse light circuit. Since this custom harness uses connectors specific to your truck and simply plugs in, it sounds like there could be a short caused perhaps by a damaged connector on the vehicle. This could account for the harness interacting with the truck's reverse light circuit.
Given the truck's 26-year age it is quite likely that the issue is simply corrosion in... view full answer...
